4 Tips for Making the Invisalign Process Go Smoothly

Last updated 9 months ago

The Invisalign system is a great new alternative to traditional braces, utilizing a personalized set of invisible trays to gently straighten your teeth. For some great tips on how to make the process go so smoothly that you and your dentist will both have cause to smile, keep reading.

1. Change Trays On Time
Your dentist will instruct you on when to change from one tray to the next, so be sure to mark your calendar so you won’t forget to switch trays or the process may take longer. Conversely, don’t decide for yourself when it’s time for the next tray. Your dentist designed your schedule the way it is because he knows what’s best!

2. Call Your Dentist If You Encounter A Problem
If you lose or damage your current aligner, talk to your dentist about what to do. Don’t simply switch to the next tray, as this will disrupt the process even if it seems harmless enough to you. Trays can be remade relatively quickly once your dentist has put in the order and he can advise you on what to do in the meantime to keep your treatment on track.

3. Keep Your Regular Appointments
During the Invisalign process, you will see your dentist for regular checkups to monitor your progress and make any adjustments necessary. Make sure to keep up with these appointments, as your dentist cannot fix something he does not know is wrong. If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to discuss them—your dentist is here to help.

4. Maintain Good Oral Hygiene
Dentists know that straighter teeth are healthier teeth, but that’s not the end-all of a healthy smile. Don’t neglect your normal routine of flossing and brushing, and keep your trays clean as per your dentist’s instructions. Neglecting either of these is easy, but essential tasks can result in cavities and other tooth problems that you don’t want to deal with later on.
